Contentions in the people’s voice
Helaman 1:2 For behold, Pahoran had died, and gone the way of all the earth; therefore there began to be a serious contention concerning who should have the judgment-seat among the brethren, who were the sons of Pahoran.1
Such contention is precisely what King Mosiah had sought to avoid when he established judges rather than forcing the kingdom upon one of this children (Mosiah 29:72). Pahoran seems to have lacked Mosiah’s foresight.
Such contentions are one of the pitfalls of democratic arrangements. We see such contentions now.
