What Does Strength have to do with Humility?
Helaman 3:35 Nevertheless they did fast and pray oft, and did wax stronger and stronger in their humility, and firmer and firmer in the faith of Christ, unto the filling their souls with joy and consolation, yea, even to the purifying and the sanctification of their hearts, which sanctification cometh because of their yielding their hearts unto God.1
Come Follow Me from 2020 asks us to ponder “stronger and stronger in their humility.” What does this mean? They are growing stronger because of their humility. How does Humility make us strong? Surely it widens the mind and enhances the awareness, promotes peace in everything it touches, and enables us to cross certain thresholds of sanctication/purification. A friend’s insight on this echoes the same sentiment:
I like to see it this way: I was taught that humility means you are teachable. Being teachable allows for so much growth in every area of life, thus making you stronger.
